About this archive.

What this site is, how it was put together, and where every number on it comes from.

How this site came about

This website is geared toward the Massillon Tiger fans but those outside of the program may also find the history interesting. Most of the information on this website, such as historical stats, is taken from the archive on MassillonTigers.com, which is the high school football website run by the Booster Club. There is no better website for a high school football program than that one, and a Tiger fan can easily spend hours deep diving into old games, write-ups, and the history of the program.

Instead of replicating the Booster Club website, the goal of this website was to provide modern visualizations, charts, and graphs about the program. AI was utilized to build the website (in a short amount of time I might add) using the source data from MassillonTigers.com and other websites / media referenced below. While it is mostly built out at this point, I'll continue to add enhancements where there is value and will continue to update all of the information as seasons conclude. Go Tigers!

Where the numbers come from

Every figure on this site traces back to one of these.

Games, seasons, coaches, championships and honors
The archive on MassillonTigers.com, the Booster Club's high school football website, kept up to date by hand by the editor of this site. Every game, attendance figure, coach and title on these pages is derived from that one file, so the charts and tables cannot disagree with each other.
This season's schedule and scores
Maintained by hand from the booster club's game reports as each week is played.
Game recaps and box scores
Official Massillon Tigers game notes and statistics PDFs posted at massillontigers.com. Each game story links to the document it was built from, and nothing is filled in that the document does not show.
Harbin points and rankings, 2000 to present
joeeitel.com.
Harbin rankings, 1972 to 1999
ohhsfbdb.net.
The regional ratings board, 1972 to 2025
A ratings workbook compiled by the editor of this site from those two sources, listing each region school's finish and record as of the end of the regular season.
Players who went on to the pros
The Massillon Tigers list of past players and coaches who reached the professional ranks, at massillontigers.com.
Quotes and stories
Each quote names its speaker and where it was printed. Several come from "Massillon Memories" by Scott Shook; others from the Chicago Tribune, NPR's All Things Considered and the Des Moines Sunday Register.
Map outlines
Natural Earth's public-domain country, state and province boundaries, converted to outlines that ship with the site rather than fetched while you browse.

What's still missing or estimated

  • No coach is on record for 1893, so that season is listed as Unknown.
  • Attendance is recorded for 1,108 of the 1,310 games in the workbook and begins in 1894. About 400 of those figures are rounded to the nearest hundred, so early crowds are closer to estimates than counts.
  • Yardage is first recorded in 1933, and only 780 games carry a turnover line, so the yardage and turnover charts start later than the scores do.
  • Harbin points and mailing city exist only from 2000. The years 1972 to 1999 show a school's finish and record, and 1972 to 1979 rank only the top 36 teams in the region.
  • The Farrell, PA game has no box score because it was never played — it was a forfeit — so its statistics print a dash rather than a guess. Games still to come do the same.

The archive is maintained by hand. When something is wrong — a score, a coach's year, an attendance figure — it is checked against the source it came from and corrected there, so every page that uses it changes at once.

This is an independent fan archive. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Massillon City Schools or the Massillon Tigers football booster club.
