The game story
How it happened.
A smothering Tiger defense set the tone in a 42–0 rout of Canisius, the No. 8 ranked team in New York. It was the fourth time in Nate Moore's twelve seasons that Massillon opened 4–0 — the previous three all ended in the Division II state championship game, with a title in 2023.
Defense feeds the offense
Canisius managed just two first downs and punted five times in the first half, giving the Tigers an average start at the Massillon 49. Rasmus Haines opened the scoring with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Gio Jackson Jr., Mateo Herrera added a 30-yard field goal, and Brayton Feister raced 26 yards behind edge-sealing zone blocking.
Special teams strike
With 1:45 left in the half, Braylon Gamble fielded a punt, broke several tackles and didn't stop until he had finished a 50-yard return for a touchdown and a 24–0 lead. Massillon led in total yards 182–89 at the break.
Running clock
Gary Yeager scored from five yards out after a 65-yard bomb to Jackson, and two safeties — a snapped punt kicked out of the end zone and an intentional-grounding call — sandwiched Feister's second touchdown. Canisius was held to 101 total yards, just 12 of them after halftime.
